Wire & Mixed Media

This series is constructed from thin gauge wire and cardboard, and is my first attempt at working with variations on a theme. The initial stages for this series was a series of plaster sculptures that were treated like 3D drawings. The initial plaster forms were all the same size and shape, and were the equivalent of a blank sheet of paper. Each piece was cut into in various areas creating negative spaces, changing the form of each piece. This information from the plaster pieces was translated into the wire and cardboard sculpture. The wire is covered with aluminum screen with layers of hand textured colored tissue paper applied to the surface. The cardboard sculpture has the same textured tissue surface. Both the wire and the cardboard sculpture have armature like structures for support. All of the work is designed to be suspended above eye level to create a sense of buoyancy.
