Steel Gate

The gate depicted in these images was designed and built for the Alexander Family. The specific needs of the gate design centered on a needed delineation between two very differently planted exterior areas. The clients wanted the functional qualities of a gate and an aesthetic solution to the specific site. The site for the gate was in a fairly restricted in area, so I designed around the gate to be structurally sound with as much negative space as possible. This approach allowed for more filtered light and the general feeling of openness in a restricted area.

The gate is made from a variety of steel plate of varying thickness. The gate was first mocked up in cardboard to create patterns for the individual parts. Working this way allows for change and saves on unnecessary waste.

The size of the gate is 78" x 40" x 5"
